Blog 16: 2-hour meeting answer #2

1. What is the most important factor of an automobile in keeping its passengers safe?

2. My second answer is to have effective seat belts.

  • Seat belts saved more than 75,000 lives from 2004 to 2008.
  •   A 2009 NHTSA study estimates more than 1,600 lives could be saved and 22,000 injuries prevented if seat belt use was 90 percent in every state.
  • In 2009, seat belt use averaged 88 percent nationally, compared with 69 percent in 1998.

    5. I plan to continue study of my second answer by looking up more statistics on the effect of seat belts on traffic accidents.
